Energy & Renewables

The grid is being rebuilt around generation that is not where the old generation was.

Transmission corridors, renewable energy zones, grid-scale batteries and substation civil works are let by network operators and EPC contractors who prequalify their supply chains long before a package is advertised. The bid that wins is the one that evidences programme certainty and environmental method, not the one with the sharpest rate.

The pipeline

The grid is being rebuilt around generation that is not where the old generation was.

New South Wales has earmarked $2.1 billion for renewable energy zone transmission infrastructure. The Hunter-Central Coast REZ is a $590 million network project enabling 1.8GW of new generation and storage, creating 590 construction jobs and 220 ongoing roles, with construction underway since March 2026. The South West REZ between Jerilderie and Wagga Wagga projects 1,690 direct jobs a year during construction. Nationally the outlook is 27GW of dispatchable storage by 2030. The Hunter registration of interest alone drew 35 large-scale batteries, 24 solar projects, 20 wind farms and eight pumped hydro proposals.

Here's the uncomfortable part: almost none of that work is generation. It is access tracks, foundations, hardstand, drainage, environmental controls, substation civil and cable trenching, let by transmission operators and EPC contractors who prequalify their supply chains long before a package is advertised. Contractors waiting for an open tender are bidding whatever is left once the panel has been asked.

Sub-sectors

What we deliver in each

01

Transmission & REZ civil works

Access tracks, tower and structure foundations, laydown, drainage and reinstatement across corridors measured in hundreds of kilometres. Won on programme certainty and environmental compliance, not on rate alone.

02

Battery storage & BESS sites

Pads, bunding, fire separation, hardstand and services for grid-scale storage. Short programmes, tight commissioning windows, and clients who have never built one either.

03

Substations & switchyards

Civil packages inside live electrical environments, with access, isolation and interface constraints that a general civil methodology does not address.

04

Renewable generation civil

Wind and solar farm balance of plant, roads, hardstands, foundations, trenching, where remoteness and weather decide whether the programme survives.

05

Environmental & rehabilitation

Erosion and sediment control, native vegetation, cultural heritage and rehabilitation obligations that are scored, conditioned and audited long after handover.

How we win energy tenders

Six strategies, none of them "sharpen the rate"

Strategy 01

Prequalify before the package exists

Transmission operators and EPC contractors run standing supply chains. We get you assessed and listed before the work is advertised, because that is when the decision is actually made.

Strategy 02

Programme certainty as the pitch

On a REZ package, late is expensive in a way that cheap never compensates for. We write programmes that evidence float, resourcing and weather contingency rather than asserting a date.

Strategy 03

Environmental compliance written as capability

Erosion and sediment control, vegetation and heritage obligations are scored. We write them as demonstrated method, with named personnel and monitoring regimes, not as a policy statement.

Strategy 04

Remote workforce and logistics, costed

Accommodation, rotation, plant availability and supply lines. Evaluators can tell in one read whether a bidder has actually priced remoteness or assumed it away.

Strategy 05

Live-network interface planning

Substation and connection works happen alongside energised assets. Access, isolation and switching constraints belong in the methodology, not in an RFI after award.

Strategy 06

EPC positioning

Most of this work is subcontract under an EPC. We build the capability statement that gets you named in their supply chain before their packages open.

The VXS evaluation lens

How energy tenders are scored, and where bids die

Critical sections in every energy tender

  • Programme with evidenced float, resourcing and weather contingency across a long linear corridor
  • Environmental management, erosion and sediment control, vegetation and cultural heritage
  • Remote workforce, accommodation, rotation and plant availability, costed rather than assumed
  • Live-network interface, access, isolation and switching constraints
  • Safety in an electrical environment, with competencies and permits named
  • Rehabilitation and post-construction obligations, and who carries them

Where energy bids fail

  • Waiting for an open tender on work whose supply chain was prequalified a year earlier
  • A programme that asserts a date without evidencing how it survives a wet season
  • Environmental content written as policy rather than as method
  • Remoteness priced as though the corridor were metropolitan
  • No answer to working alongside energised assets
